Researchers from the Austrian Institute of Science and Technology, the Technical University of Vienna and the Technical University of Munich, Germany, have for the first time entangled low-energy microwaves with high-energy optical photons, according to a paper published in the latest issue of the journal Science. This entangled quantum state of two photons is the basis for connecting superconducting quantum computers via room-temperature links, which has significant implications for extending existing quantum hardware, enabling interconnections with other quantum computing platforms, and novel quantum-enhanced remote sensing applications.
